Russia suspends import of milk products from Lithuania

Federal service on customers' rights protection and human well-being surveillance Rospotrebnadzor announced that the import of some milk products from Lithuania to Russia was suspended from October 7.

According to Chief Sanitary Inspector of Russia Gennadiy Grigoryevich Onishchenko, such a decision was made because of the sanitary and epidemiology. He said that the production of such Lithuania's companies as Pieno Zvaigzde, Silutes Rambynas, Rokiskio Pienas did not meet the requirements.

According to Rospotrebnadzor, Lithuania's producers violated the requirements related to public awareness of the product's meeting the standards. Moreover, according to the service, the unallowable amount of the leaven and mould were found in some of the products from Lithuania

According to the State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) spokeswoman Jurgita Savickaite, there was no official information about the suspension of the import of the milk products from Lithuania yet.

"It is difficult to say something because we have not received any official information yet whether the suspension of the import of milk product from Lithuania is actually taking place or Russia is trying to make an ordinary threat," said Savickaite.

The information related about the intentions to suspend the import of the milk product from Lithuania into Ruissia was released on September 17. However, the information was not confirmed.
